The John Holtger Racing Team traveled to Elk River, MN the weekend of July 12th & 13th to battle it out in the Mod Kart class and the Sportsman Stock SXS class both Friday and Saturday!
Practice went well on Thursday, and gave John a good feel for the new layout at the ERX Motor Park. John’s first race on Friday was in the Mod Kart class. With the invert he was lined up to start 7th, which was at the back of the pack. Going into turn 1, John had already passed the other drivers and took the lead! He led the pack until the mandatory caution, where another car got past John on the restart. Battling to take the lead, John had a line on the final turn, but the car in 2nd cut him off and they ended up drag racing to the finish line! This was literally a photo finish with John taking 2nd place by about 6″!
Friday afternoon John lined back up for the Sportsman Stock SXS race! John was lined up
to start in 7th. By the 3rd lap he worked his way up to 4th and ended up falling back a few spots. John finished the race strong in 8th place out of 33 cars!
Ready for another full day of racing on Saturday, the team was ready to redeem themselves after Friday’s races! Starting the day off in the Mod Kart class, John was lined up to start at the back of the pack again (with the invert). By turn 1 John had passed everyone up and took an early lead! He held his own, and took home the win by a long shot; holding his spot as the points leader and returning MW Mod Kart Champion!
Saturday afternoon John was lined back up for the Sportsman Stock SXS race John was starting in 6th and quickly worked his way up to 4th after a couple of laps. After several cautions, John was in 2nd going into the last lap. Battling it out, John found an opening and passed the car in 1st to take the lead! Racing neck in neck, John was able to hold his own and end the race taking 1st place!
This was a very successful weekend for John. With his win
on Saturday in the Sportsman Stock SXS class, John is now 2nd in point for this class!
