Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series Geico Off Road Championship Weekend – Chandler AZ Oct 26 & 27

30DE7CF8-0FC8-40EA-97D8-216D8F1A175EThe weekend of Oct 26 & 27 marked the final round for the LOORRS 2019 season! Going into the weekend we decided to change things up a bit! John brought the Yamaha YXZ1000r out, and debuted in the Production 1000 UTV class! In addition, we gave the new Mod Kart a chance, and decided to race it!

IMG_0548It was a busy weekend lineup – racing (2) classes, and participating in the Production 1000/Turbo UTV Challenge Cup! Thankfully we had the West and MW Teams both present so everyone could keep the vehicles prepped!

Starting Saturday off in the Production 1000 UTV race, John started 10th out of 13 drivers. On the first lap he gained 2 spots, moving into 8th. After the competition caution John was able to make his way into 6th, but dropped back a couple spots and finished the race in 8th place!

IMG_0570The Mod Kart race was up next, being the 1st race of the night to race under the lights! John went into his final National race of the year in the top 5 in points, hoping to maintain that! Starting 10th out of 17 drivers, John made his way up to 8th by the competition caution. Racing hard and battling his way up, John finished with a strong 5th place!

583697BC-BCAF-48F4-8AA0-DC0976C04BABSaturday night ended with John’s first Challenge Cup race! LOORRS decided to combine the Production 1000 and Turbo UTV classes this year for the first time ever to race against each other in this Challenge Cup, so John was lined up to race against some of the best PRO UTV racers out there! The field had about 20 drivers lined up between the 2 classes. John started 9th in the Production 1000 lineup and held his own! The top 10 competitors had a 1 lap shootout to end the race, and John finished the Challenge Cup 7th overall, and 5th in his class!

38D21CB9-41EC-4B20-8282-887BBCF0F51CSunday was the Regional race. John was lined up to race in the Mod Kart class, and the Production 1000 UTV class. Qualifying 8th out 20 drivers for the Mod Kart race, John was working his way up and trying to battle through the crazy amount of cautions going on! Unfortunately, a rock got kicked up and took out his front brakes, so John not was able to finish the race.

IMG_0568John had a great qualifying round Sunday morning for the Production 1000 UTV class – being able to start 6th out of the 11 drivers! Battling hard against seasoned racers, John finished 5th for the day!

This was a great way to end the 2019 season with LOORRS! With it only being John’s 2nd year racing this series in the Mod Kart class he finished the season in 4th place for points! It also allowed him to get a feel for the Production 1000 UTV class – hoping to race competitively in this class in the 2020 season!
